This policy explains how The Pixie Dust Edit (“this site”, “I”, “me”) collects and uses personal data, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Data controller: Jessica Parker Contact: thepixiedustedit@gmail.com
What I collect, and why
If you subscribe to emails
I collect your email address, and your first name if you provide it.
- Why: to send you the free planner and occasional emails about new guides.
- Lawful basis: consent. You gave it by subscribing, and you can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Kept: until you unsubscribe, or after 24 months of no engagement.
- Processed by: MailerLite who store data on my behalf.
If you leave a comment
I collect the name, email address and comment you submit, plus your IP address and browser user agent (which WordPress records to help detect spam).
- Why: to display and moderate comments and prevent spam.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests — running a functioning, spam-free comment section.
- Kept: indefinitely, unless you ask me to delete it.
- Note: comments may be checked by an automated spam service.
If you contact me
I keep the email address and any information you include in your message.
- Why: to reply to you.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests — responding to enquiries.
- Kept: up to 24 months.
When you simply visit
Analytics software collects anonymised or pseudonymised usage data: pages visited, approximate location (country/region level), device and browser type, and how you arrived.
- Why: to understand which guides are useful and how to improve the site.
- Lawful basis: consent, via the cookie banner.
- Processed by: Google Analytics 4
Affiliate links
Some links are affiliate links. Clicking one may set a cookie in your browser that allows the retailer to attribute a purchase to this site. That process is operated by the retailer or their affiliate network — I never see your payment details, your name, or what you bought. I only see anonymous, aggregated reporting such as “one booking was made”.
See the affiliate disclosure for more, and the cookie policy for how to control these cookies.
Who your data is shared with
I don’t sell your data, and I never will. It’s shared only with the service providers needed to run the site:
- Web hosting: WordPress.com
- Email marketing: MailerLite
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4
- Affiliate networks and advertising partners, where you interact with their links or ads
- Spam filtering
Some of these may process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Rectify anything inaccurate
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis
To exercise any of these, email thepixiedustedit@gmail.com. I’ll respond within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This site is aimed at adults planning family holidays and isn’t directed at children under 13. I don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact me and I’ll delete it.
Security
I take reasonable steps to protect your data, including an SSL certificate, kept-updated software and restricted access. No website can guarantee absolute security, but I’ll notify you and the ICO of any breach affecting your rights, as required by law.
Changes
This policy may be updated from time to time. The date at the top shows the last revision.
A note on this template
This policy was prepared as a starting template and reflects a small personal blog. It isn’t legal advice. Fill in every bracketed placeholder, and check it matches the services you actually use — if you add a shop, membership, or anything collecting more data, get it reviewed properly.
